Zakk sat there with his usual impassive expression. Waiting for me to come to terms with the truth.

"So... so you..." I struggled to keep my voice from wavering. "You suck out people's... you suck out there souls?"

"Pretty much," he sighed and glanced up at me with his eerie lavender eyes.

I couldn't think of anything to say. I didn't want to say anything until I was sure that my voice wouldn't betray the utter horror knotting inside my stomach.

What was he? Some kind of monster!?

I had to calm down. I had to think.

He hadn't hurt me yet... key word: yet.

And in truth, what he was shouldn't bother me so much. I mean, I was friends with giant dogs and demonic sisters.

And now, no matter how scared I was of him, I could no longer escape. He'd just spilled his deepest, darkest secret. He couldn't afford to let me go now.

After all, I was a liability...
